Happy New Year, Anvilites! It's time to set your creative goals and resolutions—and that's what this challenge is all about! This month, until February 7th, you'll read articles from fellow Anvilites, write an article inspired by them, and set New Year's Resolutions for your creative projects.
Keep reading to learn all about the details of this challenge, as well as where to find articles to read!
Not your first time?
If you've taken part to the New Year's Resolutions challenge before, this year we're shaking things up! Check the "How to Enter" section just below to learn what's new this year.
How to Enter
All participants need a
World Anvil account (don’t worry, it’s free!) to get started. Once you’ve logged in and created your first world, you’re ready to enter the competition!
Step-by-step
- Pick 5 articles written by Anvilites other than yourself. We recommend choosing them from the WorldEmber special categories and leaderboards, or from the Discovery stream in the Community portal (find it in the top menu bar).
- Give the articles a like (maybe even a sticker!) and let the authors know your favorite thing about them!
- Create a worldbuilding article for your world that is inspired by the articles you've chosen. The article can be about anything, and it can be any kind of inspiration (for example, you could be inspired to write about a specific topic, to experiment with your writing style or genre, etc). Make sure the article is published and public!
- Create a Generic Article. Write about what you learned from the articles you picked, how they inspired the article you created (make sure to include a link), and describe your creative New Year's resolutions.
- When ready to submit, make sure that both your articles are published and public. Submit the Generic Article to this challenge
- Click the button on the trophy button at the bottom of the article editor to submit it to the challenge before February 7th.
This challenge has a single participation prize consisting of a virtual badge that will be displayed in your World Anvil profile. Plus, you'll get the satisfaction of knowing you have clear goals for the year and have become a better worldbuilder by reading!
Other Information
- The generic article you submit needs to be at least 150 words long. We encourage you to reach 300 words in the worldbuilding article you write based on your inspirations, although there's no enforced wordcount requirement.
- The article you write should be inspired by other Anvilites' worldbuilding, but it shouldn't copy anything from them! Don't copy content, names, or other elements from other Anvilites without their permission.
- The article must be submitted before the closing time to be eligible (February 7th at 6pm UK/10am Pacific).
- Only one article may be submitted per person (this does not mean one article per world, in cases where multiple authors work on a single world).
- World Anvil retains the right to arbitrate and/or change the rules where necessary to uphold the spirit and integrity of this event and the community. We will communicate changes as necessary.
- As always, World Anvil claims no ownership over your original work.
