Alternatives for Feature Pop Up on Site Opening

dashboard pop-up

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently, there is a pop-up that appears each day the first time I log in and open the Dashboard that has to be interacted with. I understand the purpose of this is to draw attention to features, but the fact that it is this intrusive has made it a bit annoying for my workflow.   I would like to propose a couple alternate ways to have this feature incorporated in the site that is less intrusive.   1. A Toggle On/Off In Settings: Much like how we have the animations toggle, I would like a way to turn these pop-ups off entirely.   2. Add Them As A Field On the Dashboard: Having them as another section of the Dashboard, without forced interaction via a pop-up, would simplify the workflow and require fewer clicks. It could also be a part of the Dashboard customization where we can remove entirely.   I guess the long and the short of it is I want a way to turn the pop-up off if I want, and the above ideas are ways I think it can be achieved for the people who don't want/need it every single day.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

It opens the doors for users to choose how they want to interact with reminders about features, granting more customization and freedom. It could even be limited to paying Guild members if needed. But the idea is to minimize the daily annoyance that the pop-up has become for people who log into World Anvil every day.

What are other uses for this feature request?

None really beyond user satisfaction, I guess?

Follow up

Maybe it's just me, but the pop-ups have stopped for a few days. Maybe that means there were a finite number, maybe it means something changed - if the former, still worth looking into the suggestion above. If the latter, thanks WA team!

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! In its current behavior, the quick tips appear every day until you've seen all of them, then they don't appear again. We have decided to not change this behavior.

I have 14000 coins. I would throw them all at this if I could.

I didn't get these popups until recently, now I get a new one every day. It's important to make how-tos available to new users, and us old users can benefit from the occasional refresher, but there has to be a better way. It's frustrating to have to close an unwanted tutorial on an unrelated topic before I can resume working on an article.   I'm not sure if this is a feature request or a bug report, but since there's a feature request, have my coins.

Either toggle or resize/position would help also.

I'd like a way to toggle tutorial snippits on/off.

A question? Why does this particular pop up fill half the screen, while, the "new improved" editor is crammed into a space the size of a 2x3 note card?

1000% agree with this. These pop ups are absolutely obnoxious and really detract from even wanting to interact with WA at all. Every single other site in the world that has pop ups like this have an option to say "don't show me this again". I don't understand why this was left out. It seems like a silly thing to leave out. Those of us who are power users and use it all the time do not need constant reminders of features every day. It's just an annoyance and detracts from the experience for us.
