Dipak stepped up to Amser’s side and looked down over the hill to see what had caught his attention. He smiled and gave Amser a firm pat on the back.
“You really should know better than that,” Dipak said with a laugh.
Amser snorted. Leave it to Dipak to think that everything was about sex or some other such reason to chase mortals about.
“He shouldn’t be here,” Amser said.
“Enaid will show him the way. Either she will lead him in and we’ll get to meet him or she’ll lead him out,” Dipak stated with a shrug.
Dipak couldn’t see what the fuss was about. Humans were good at getting themselves lost. Every now and again, one found themselves within Enaid. Most of the time, Enaid simply showed them the way out just as they had come in. Every once in a while, Enaid drew someone to the Life Tree. The Fey never knew what her purpose was, but they welcomed whomever she brought into their fold.
“But this is the third time he’s come in. She’s already led him out twice,” Amser said.
“What?”
Dipak took a closer look at the man. He was young and frail looking. Short with narrow shoulders and soft features, he could easily pass for a boy. His hair was long and hung in uneven black locks that came down partly over his face. With hazel eyes that seemed too large for his face, he glanced about himself as though he suspected that he was being watched.
“How?” Dipak asked.
“How the fuck would I know?” Amser snapped.
Dipak was older than all the other Fey, but he always acted like a child. Currently, he also looked like one. This was a dichotomy that Amser could not accept as reasonable and because of it often struggled to stay civil. It wasn't fair, but that's how things go sometimes.
“Such language,” Dipak said while wagging a finger.
Amser flipped Dipak off and moved forward to follow the man more closely. Dipak let him go without any effort to follow him. This gave Amser the impression that Dipak was disinterested when it was really that he trusted Amser with the problem completely and felt no need to mettle. It had been Amser that came upon the man for a reason. Dipak would let the two of them try to discover what that reason was. In the meantime, he would visit the Life Tree and see what Enaid had to say on the matter.
